Permits, inspections and PG&E

Swapping a fixture on an existing circuit is usually simple. New circuits, new recessed lighting in a remodel, and most commercial lighting work need a permit, and California’s Title 24 energy rules apply to new lighting.

Inside Auburn city limits, electrical permits come from the City of Auburn Building Division, which takes permit applications online. In unincorporated areas, such as North Auburn, it’s Placer County Building Services. Elsewhere it’s that city or county’s building department. We pull the permit, schedule the inspection and meet the inspector.

Common questions

Do I need a permit for new lighting?

Replacing a fixture usually doesn’t. New circuits, remodel lighting and most commercial lighting work do. We’ll tell you which applies.

Why do my LED lights flicker?

Often it’s a dimmer that isn’t matched to the LED. Our guide on LED dimmer flicker covers the common causes.

Do you do landscape and outdoor lighting?

Yes, for homes and businesses, including security and parking lot lighting.

Can you install a fixture I bought?

Yes. Let us know what it is and we’ll check that the box and support are right for it.
