Problem panel and recall checker

Pick your panel brand, or ask from a photo of the panel label. We tell you plainly whether it is a recall, a known problem history, or neither.

1. What does the label inside the panel door say?

2. Not sure? Ask from a photo of the panel label or breakers (keep the cover on).

General information from public sources (U.S. CPSC recall and investigation records, and long-standing industry experience). It is not an inspection. Brand alone does not mean a specific panel is safe or unsafe.

How do I find my panel brand?

Open the panel door (not the cover) and look for the label on the inside of the door or the dead-front: brand, model and amp rating. Breaker handles often carry the brand too. Do not remove the panel cover.

Common questions

How do I know if my panel is recalled?

Note the brand and model on the label and compare with CPSC recall records. Of the well-known problem brands, only certain 1988 Challenger GFCI breakers were recalled; FPE, Zinsco and Pushmatic have problem histories but no CPSC recall.

General information for California homes under the California Electrical Code (based on the NEC). Local rules and inspectors can vary. Not a substitute for an on-site inspection. Never work inside a panel, at the meter or on live circuits.
